New Milford FD responds to a Hazmat Incident.

On February 9th 2024, The New Milford Fire Department and their Hazmat team responded to prospect Park to a reported green substance in the water along with marine life deceased in the water. Fish and wildlife team was called in to assist. New Milford FD Hazmat team along with the Bergen County Hazmat teams were onsite for over 3 hours. The Bergen County hazmat team found the substance to be non-toxic, an as per the Department of the environmental protection. The brook was flushed so the product could be diluted.

New Milford FD Hazmat Team attends training

Tonight our Hazardous Materials team along with the other 3 teams from Bergen County met with County Hazmat and County OEM in Garfield to train on lithium battery fires and the products we use to store burned out cells. This type of training will be taking place all year long. This is the new initiative the County is working on to bring all the teams up to speed and on the same level when combating these types of incidents.

New Milford Fire Department responds to a oven fire.

Sunday evening companies responded to the 500 block of the Boulevard for a reported fire in the oven. First arriving companies were met with smoke at the front door and an active fire in the oven. Engine 33 and Engine 34 extinguished the fire and removed the oven from the home. Home was turned back over to the homeowner and units cleared the scene in under an hour.


New Milford FD responds to a Motor Vehicle Accident

This morning Engine 34, Engine 32, 31 Truck along with a Squad from Oradell and River Edge responded to Webster Drive in New Milford for a motor vehicle accident involving a residential structure. Once on scene companies found a vehicle into the residence. Although the home sustained structural damage the foundation was found to be left intact. No parties were injured. The utilities to the home were secured. PSEG was called to the scene and the home was turned back over to the homeowner.

New Milford FD along with Tri-boro Departments assisted with water rescues from recent flooding.

Earlier today New Milford’s Marine Division along with the River Edge and Oradell Marine units under the direction of Chief 3-0 operated in New Milford conducting multiple water rescues throughout the borough. These rescues along with answering multiple alarms have kept our members busy today.

New Milford FD Called for Mutual Aid

Car 3-0 and Engines 34 took in this mutual aid job this morning in River Edge. Just before 6:40 this morning Battalion Nine companies responded to the 900 block of Poplar Ave for reported smoke in the home. Upon investigation the first arriving chiefs confirmed a fire in the basement and a working fire was transmitted. 31 Truck was requested for coverage. The fire was quickly brought under control and companies were released back to the borough.
