""The New Milford Fire Department regrets to announce the passing of Former Chief of Department Craig J. Maiocchi. Craig passed away early this morning at his place of rehabilitation. Craig's contributions to this department extend back to his days as a Junior Firefighter, which progressed through many years as a firefighter, line officer and Chief of Department 4 times. Craig's service to the community of New Milford, this department and his loving family, relatives and friends will be missed. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. All information will be provided through this channel, and other official means. Thanks to everyone who supported Craig, his family and closest friends during his infirmary.

NMFD Line Of Duty Death

It is with the deepest regret that I announce the Line of Duty Death of New Milford Fire Company 1 Engineer and Firefighter Frank Matagrano. Wake services will be held Friday from 2-7 at the Ascension Church auditorium 256 Azalea Drive in New Milford followed by a funeral procession ending at company 1. With that being said I would like to thank Fire Company 1, New Milford Ambulance Corp. and Dumont Fire Chief Daniel Molinaro for their valiant efforts on that night. Their efforts gave Frank's family an opportunity to say their goodbyes. Please keep Frank and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Rest easy Frank, your brothers will take it from here.

On 12/17/17, NMFD held their annual Christmas party for the Children & Grandchildren of the Members. Santa had gifts for all the children. A great time was had by ALL!

Bus Fire 12/11/17

At 9:00am this morning, the department was alerted of a reported bus fire at the intersection of River Rd. and Rambler Ave. First arriving units confirmed that it was a working bus fire. Engine 32 was ordered to establish a water supply from a nearby hydrant and stretch a line to the fire. Tower 31 arrived shortly therafter and was ordered to stretch a second line to the interior of the bus. River Edge Fire Department was requested for one engine to respond to the scene to assist with the fire. Car 3-0, 30-1, 30-2, Engine 32, and Tower 31 operated on scene for just over an hour. A Special thanks to former River Edge Chief David Stucke who assisted by hitting the hydrant for Engine 32.

New Milford Fire Department Holiday Toy Drive

What a Great Day! We started with breakfast with Santa at the High School. Then we started our annual toy drive for the children in need of New Milford. Thanks to your generosity we collected nearly 500 toys! A special thanks to Girl Scout Troops, 4702 & 32. Brownie Troops, 6985,669,9440 & 9691. Cadet Troop 4440 & Daisy Troop 97485. Boy Scout Troops 78 & 291. Your support for this worthy cause was AWESOME !! Thank You

BERGENFIELD HOUSE FIRE

Early this morning just after 4am Tower 31 was dispatched mutual aid to a smoke condition at 29 Byrne place in Bergenfield. Minutes after Bergenfield command advised they had a working basement fire at that location. Tower 31's crew quickly went to work starting a primary search of the first floor and overhaul operations. Units operated on scene for 1 hour before returning to the boro.

MUTUAL AID COMMERCIAL FIRE – BERGENFIELD

Today around 4:20pm the department was alerted to a commercial structure fire in Bergenfield. First arriving units were met with heavy fire conditions at a one story laundromat. Tower 31, Squad 36 along with car 3-0 and car 3-01 responded to the South Washington Ave. fire. Tower 31 began truck work and went to cut holes in the roof to let heat and gasses escape the structure. Squad 36's crew set up fast team operations, preformed overhaul and checked for extension. Units operated at the 3rd alarm for 3 hours before being released to the boro. New Milford worked with crews from Bergenfield, Dumont, Tenafly, River Edge and the surrounding communities. Thankfully there were no injuries.
