Today at approximately 1:20pm the department was dispatched to the 1000 block of Evergreen court for an activated fire alarm. Upon arrival of the first fire chief, it was noticed that a large tree was struck by lightning in the rear of the home. Soon after that, the first engine pulled up along with the second chief and crews began their investigation into the home. As soon as the crews made the second floor they were met with a smoke condition. After further investigation the crews discovered fire running along the front soffit from an apparent lightning strike. Fire department operated on scene for about 2 1/2 hours with the assistance of the Oradell, River Edge, Dumont and Bergenfield fire departments and the New Milford Ambulance Corp.
