On Thursday 7/23 an NMPD unit patrolling town noticed smoke emanating from the roofline of 289 Henley Avenue. The NMFD recieved the call at 9:31pm and Chiefs 30,301, & 302 arrived within minutes. Truck 31 forced entry and began a search for occupants as two cars were seen in the driveway. Engine 33 established a supply line and entered with a hoseline for fire attack. Interior crews were assisted by Engine 34 and 36’s crews upon arrival. The fire was located in the basement and conditions inside the structure caused by contents hampered operations. The fire was ultimately knocked down and contained to the basement with extension to the first floor kitchen area. Crews operated on scene until approximately 1am. NMFD was assisted by Mutual Aid at the scene and for station coverage by companies from Oradell, River Edge, Dumont, Bergenfield, Paramus, Teaneck, Emerson, Haworth, Bogota, Tenafly, and Demarest. One firefighter sustained minor injuries.

Frank Matagrano Street Dedication
On May 4, 2019, Summit Street between Center Street and Grand Avenue was dedicated in his memory to Firefighter Frank Matagrano. Frank Matagrano was responding to a call for service when he succumbed to a medical related incident. The dedication was attended by his family, members of the New Milford Fire Department and members of the mayor counsel.

5/4/19: Wires Down/Vehicle Fire – Monmouth Ave – multiple wires down with a vehicle on fire between Stockton and Asbury. When FD units arrived they found multiple wires down arching and a vehicle on fire. After PSE&G secured the power the vehicle fire was extinguished.

5/11/19: Stove Fire – Faller Dr. – Grease fire in the exhaust fan over the stove.
5/11/19: Gas Emergency – River Road – Reported odor of gas in the basement.
Passing of Robert Heimburg
The New Milford Fire Department regrets to announce the passing of Former Chief of Department, current Chief Engineer and Active Member Robert F. Heimburg on Friday morning, Sep 28, 2018. Bob passed away peacefully at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center while under doctor's care for recent illnesses. Bob's service to the New Milford Fire Department, the community of New Milford and his Country as a sergeant in the US Army during the Korean Conflict left indelible marks which helped make this world a better place. Bob is survived by his loving wife Eleanor and two children, son Keith (former NMFD and Long Valley Fire Chief) and daughter Karen (former Captain of NMVAC). Thanks to all who comforted Bob during his recent infirmary. He will be sorely missed.
Working Fire Canterbury Village New Milford
July 28 & 29 2018 A very busy 24 hours for the New Milford Fire Department. After assisting Bergenfield Fire Department last night at their multiple alarm fire, the NMFD was dispatched for an outside deck fire at Canterbury Village. Chief DeCarlo, upon arrival confirmed it was a working fire that eventually went to three alarms. Thank you to all the agencies that assisted us today.
